More Info on Pricing

In an earlier post, I discussed how I go about pricing my Wire Wrap Jewelry.  I should have made it clear that I was talking about the retail price of my jewelry.

The retail price is the price I charge if I am selling directly to the customer.  Such as when I am selling at a craft show, a home party, on consignment, or on e-bay.

My pricing is different when I am selling wholesale

Using the example from my previous post on Aug-25-2005 (you can find it in the archives) I had set the retail price range anywhere from $80 to $100 for the Wire Wrapped Cameo Pendant in the example.  Most likely in the example I would start the retail price at $100.  Then I would give the customer a $20 discount to close the deal.

When selling wholesale to a boutique, you have to charge less.  You must make it worth while for them to sell your jewelry in their shop.

I would set the wholesale price for the pendant in the example at no more than $50.  I would tell the boutique owner that the suggested retail value of the piece is $100.

This gives them room to offer their customers a deal.  They can sell it to their customers at 20% off and still make $30 themselves.

So you might ask "Why would I want to sell my Wire Jewelry wholesale when I can make so much more money selling it retail?"

Well that's going to be the topic of my next post.  I will tell you this though.  Selling wholesale to Boutiques is my favorite and most successful  method of selling my Wire Jewelry.

As always, thanks for your interest,

Ruth Clark
